Nowadays affordable living space is a very rare commodity and with a dog it’seven harder to find a place, it’s nearly impossible. During our adventures, we met our fair share of greedy and questionable landlords, we paid more rent than we could afford, we got ripped off by agencies and friends. One landlord was admitted to a hospital after he had a nervous breakdown, another was a welfare fraud and much more.

Indy’s BLOG- Is this our new place? – Badalona

We moved to Badalona, because there was no other way. The ‘old’ landlord went totally mental and the situation was unbearable. Unfortunately we can stay only for a few days because this in no permanent option for us. We found out that the house is somehow squatted and there is a high possibility that energy or water will be disconnected soon.

Indy’s BLOG – Landlord Emergency ! Mental Breakdown! … — …

Our landlord just went postal!

We need a new place ASAP!

… — …

We already had our good share of crazy landlords, but this guy is the cherry on the top. Today Vil came home after ten days in the hospital. He was pretty sick and needed to get checked up, so he was not the fastest that evening. Vil took his time while arranging his stuff because he was still weak and dizzy.

Then “Mr. Hauptmieter” arrived home and directly started complaining and didn’t stop. Vil tried not to get annoyed and continues to sort his stuff, but “Mr.Hauptmieter” doesn’t stop and continues to barbel about everything.

That’s the way we found the kitchen. You need to know that this guy doesn’t see the flies in the kitchen sitting on his rotten food, but he has somehow a microscopic view when it’s about looking at others.

A breeding place for flies.

He continues to annoy Vil. “Clean up your stuff faster!”, “You don’t need to  make a break now!”….. and then there is the moment when “enough is enough”. Vil told him to “Back off and shut up!!!” Just one sentence! Nothing loud or even aggressive. Naaaaaaa, Vil was way to weak to make any trouble.

“Mr. Hauptmieter” backed off and disappeared in his room. Finally silence……

The outcome via WhatsApp the next morning:

GOOGLE Translate — “I was just at the mossos in the center, where the brother of a friend works .. I have informed them. The house owners also know. If you are not away at midnight on 31.12 at the latest, there will be a formal announcement on 1 January on threat and drug possession. The display goes out also, if you in the time something break or steal .. I leave me from you but not in my apartment threaten or scream !! I’m the main tenant !! PLEASE do not talk to me anymore… I have “ansiedad” (fear states) because of you. That can be confirmed by a doctor.”

Excuse  me please? I am ROFL! When you try to threaten someone, you better make sure that you know what you are doing!!

First: “The private use of cannabis in Barcelona is LEGAL!”, so WTF!?

Second: “We steal or destroy stuff?” What stuff? He only owns shit we are not interested in.

Third: We didn’t know him for a long time, but we are sure that sometime someone will not be so nice as Vil and the Russian guy…… When you fuck up everyone, some time “enough is enough”!

Anyway, this fucker is not worth it!! We immediately left, because otherwise, everything might happen.

🙂

Indy’s BLOG – A “Messie Landlord” in El Raval

When you are in need of accommodation in a big town, then you will learn very fast, that there is a very high demand, but only very little supply which leads to the crazy situation, that totally shitholes are rented out for an enormous amount of money.

In Spain, we lived in a few places and most of the time it was the same issue.  If the landlord itself stays in the flat, then most likely he uses to the other room to pay the rent for the complete flat.

As an expat, you are the milk-cow for the locals.  they use the situation to their advantage as much as possible.

When we shared a flat in El Raval,  the landlord was not only a total Messi, he also had serious mental problems, since combination was somehow “interesting “and led the end to a total escalation.

Here you can see a few pictures from the flat. All of the stuff is the stuff of the landlord and you see that the whole flat is totally filled up with whatever. The kitchen sink is totally dirty, the microwave is broken, the toilet is not working properly,  the fridge is filled up with rotten stuff and it’s actually no pleasure to live with this guy.

Our “room” is actually just the divided extension of the living room with no real door, just a sliding one and no window. That is already s***, but if you think it can’t get any worse, you are mistaken. There is another “room”, which is way smaller than ours. We pay 400 freaking Euros, the “Russian guy” 350 and the whole flat is messed up by the landlord.

Indy’s BLOG – Little issues with the room!

When you move into a big city with a low supply of flats or rooms, most likely you will meet some landlords which rent out one room to pay for the whole flat. Unfortunately, you can’t recognize these people immediately, most of the times they are friendly, and show nice pictures of the room because they want your money first and the “issues” pop up later.

Our place is quite nice, but it seems that the landlord one of the greedy ones. First, he is not willing to let us register at the place, which means that Vil has a bit of an issue to get his papers. Also, he is a bit of a control freak and he already complained that Vil uses the washing machine too often. You see the fridge is completely packed. We only got one shelf.

And that’s the storage space he “generously” left us.

At least, but surely not the last issue, he doesn’t give us any storage space for food, so that all food needs to be stored in our room, only one shelf in the fridge and just one place for one litre of milk.

You see the fridge is packed, but all with his stuff he paid with my money and the little space for food in the shelf is not usable.

Well, Vil registered anyway and the next days the authorities will visit him and end his greedy game.

It’s a shame and surely we will leave ASAP.

Indy’s BLOG – Waiting

I am sitting in a cafe and I wait that the times goes by. It’s Saturday 1700 and I wait to meet the guy with the room. He postponed from 1500 to 1800.

Maybe in less then sixty minutes I do have a real bed in Barcelona and a place where Indy is allowed.

After countless emails and calls maybe the voyage is over now.

Cross fingers!

Indy’s BLOG – Indy I miss you.

Maybe tomorrow I can pick you up. At 1500 I meet with a guy who rent a place and maybe accept you. I have good photos.

Ten days you stayed in the dog hotel and that’s a very long time we we’re nit together. I thought every day about you and I was happy that you are safe. It was a long trip, but now we are near to settle in Barcelona. More then ten weeks you, me and Victor on the road.

Maybe I can pick you up tomorrow and I promise you that we never need to do that again and we will never be apart again.

Now? We stay in Barcelona. I work as a service technician on the phone and try to make as much money we need to have a good life.

We keep Victor and modify him into VV2 – Victor Version 2.0. Based on our experience we will transform Victor into a really cool party and travel mobile.

We are safe! There’s light at the end of the tunnel. We have a future. It was a high gamble and we might hit the jackpot, but if not today even second place is a winner.

I really hope the place is ok for us and we can be re-united tomorrow evening.

And today  a cafe con leche… plus a brown tequila with orange.

Indy, Vil and Victor – For Ever!

Indy’s BLOG – Many things happened!

This is Vil. Today I will write the BLOG entry because Indy is in a dog hotel and I volunteered to write a post. It’s my first post, so please forgive me my clumsy English.

Many things happened!

Good things first.

I am back from the nearly dead. 10 days hospital in Villadecans, bad hospital food, and many antibiotics, but in the end I am way better. Indy stays in a dog hotel. A dear friend of us arranged an emergency stay for Indy on short notice.

Thank you! Bisous.

And the really good thing:

I DO HAVE A SIGNED WORKING CONTRACT!

  • I have a job!
  • But I still live in my car.
  • I applied for a NIE Number.
  • After that health insurance.
  • Now we can try to settle down in Barcelona.

But we need a place to stay…..
